Dairy Farm Manager / Couple Position

An excellent opportunity has become available for a suitably qualified and experienced full time Dairy Farm Manager / Couple on our client’s well established dairy enterprise located ideally at Murchison in Northern Victoria (5km’s to township – school bus at front gate.  20 mins to Shepparton CBD).

 

Farm Details

 

The farm is predominately pasture based and consists of some 550 acres – partially irrigated.

There is a 50 unit rotary dairy – Milking up to 430 cows - Autumn/Spring calving pattern.

 

Employment Specifics

 

The successful applicant must be highly skilled and self motivated with a progressive attitude and demonstrate excellent work/management ethics.  You must have previous experience in the dairy industry with a minimum of 5 years.  You will also demonstrate exceptional organisational skills and have the ability to work independently.  Attention to detail is a must.

You will be responsible for the day to day “hands-on” running of the dairy enterprise including:-

  • Milk harvesting
  • Supervising current staff / rosters
  • Management of herd and health records
  • Maintain Milk Quality and Assurance
  • Assisting with calving cows and post-calving health maintenance
  • Herd health / reproduction monitoring and management
  • Pasture and Crop Management / Irrigation
  • Nutrition and Supplement Feeding / Budgeting
  • Calf Rearing
  • General dairy farming practices (stockwork/spraying/fencing etc).
  • Machinery Maintenance when required

A position has become available for a suitably qualified and enthusiastic Assistant Manager to join our client's large scale dairy farming operation situated near Hawkesdale in South West Victoria.

 

The farming operation is a grass based system with some centre pivot irrigation - milking 800 cows with a 50 unit bale rotary - split calving pattern.

 

Key Specifics

 

This role requires an experienced, competent and 'hands-on' Assistant Manager with large herd experience.  You will be part of a management team which will lead and foster a team approach with farm staff members.

 

Previous management experience is desired, but not essential.  If you have a willingness and desire to learn - with a strong focus in the dairy industry -  you will be considered for this role. 

 

Excellent communication and computer skills are essential.

 

 

Role Responsibilities

 

Duties include being responsible for herd health / joinings / calvings / milkings / calf rearing and running of dry stock off platform.

 

You will work a 5 day - a week roster system in an environment with a strong emphasis on work / life balance with an opportunity to grow within the company.

 

On-farm accommodation will be provided within close proximity to major towns, recreational activities and schools.

An excellent and unique opportunity has become available for a suitably qualified and experienced 2IC / Production Manager on our client’s well established 700 cow dairy farming enterprise located near the township of Nirranda in South West Victoria (School bus at front gate / located between Nullawarre and Warrnambool)

 

This position will suit a professional and progressive individual who is focused on quality control and production with a high level of leadership skills.  Working with the farm owner, you will have the opportunity to grow and step up for future equity (taking into consideration work ethics / alignment of goals and qualities).

 

Employment Specifics - (to be considered for this role)

The successful applicant must have a genuine interest in the dairy industry and enjoy the daily farm operations with the key tasks being milk harvesting, feeding stock, pasture allocation and irrigation (centre pivot and fixed point) – attitude is paramount.  You must therefore have the ability to work as a team member/leader and be someone who demonstrates initiative and responsibility.  High standards of work and animal welfare must be targeted through attention to detail. The applicant should:

  • have the desire to be part of a great team, supported by the current farm owner and a consultant who will ensure that you have the resources to succeed in the day to day “hands-on” running of the dairy enterprise
  • previous 2IC / management experience or a similar senior role - with skill set to cover basis of farm management and the ability to be a mentor to other staff
  • must be highly skilled and self-motivated with a progressive attitude

  • demonstrate exceptional organisational skills / have the ability to work independently
  • proficient use of tractors / machinery (mechanical aptitude)

Located only 10 minutes to Heyfield / Rosedale – 20 minute drive to Traralgon / Sale townships.  All towns offer excellent modern facilities, including schools / medical / shopping and sporting facilities.

 

This well-established farming operation is predominately pasture based - with supplementary feeding system.  900 acres is irrigated via flood irrigation and pivots.  Currently milking 750 cows - split calving Spring / Autumn.  The dairy is 30 aside swing-over herringbone with stall gates.

 

As ‘hands-on’ 2IC / Manager, you will continue to grow and pursue excellence in all facets of the farming operation on a day to day basis, working closely and under the direction of the Owner. Previous experience at this level or similar is essential.
