A position has become available for an experienced, highly skilled and competent Young Stock Manager or Couple to join our client’s large scale 1,200 cow progressive dairy farming enterprise located at Blighty in the Southern Riverina district of New South Wales (20 mins to Finley – 20 mins to CBD of Deniliquin).

 

The position on offer would suit someone with ‘high level skill set’ - who is passionate about the dairy industry and wishing to pursue a long-term career in the dairy sector.  Previous experience is essential to this position.

 

Role Overview

 

Reporting directly to the Owner – the Young Stock Manager has the overall accountability for ensuring all calves are fed, watered, housed and managed according to the Businesses’ Animal welfare standard ranging from newborn to pre-calving.  Working in a support team of 2-3 people, you will also be assisted, when needed, by a cohesive team of calf rearing staff.  All year-round calving pattern (approximately 1,000 – 2,000 young stock)

  •   Be highly self-motivated with a progressive attitude  Commitment to high animal welfare standards / demonstrated               knowledge of best calf rearing practices / excellent livestock handling skills
  •   Caring and compassionate management of calves / young stock
  •   Excellent work ethics, good communication skills with attention to detail
  •   Ability to work in a strong team environment as well as unsupervised;
  •   Follow Standard Operating Procedures / Workplace Safety Focus
  •   Good time management, confidence and ability to work under pressure
  •   Demonstrated leadership skills
  •   AI Certificate would be an advantage and highly regarded.

 

Role Responsibility / Key Accountabilities

 

  •   Maintain and adhere to calf rearing required standards according to animal welfare accepted practices.
  •   Manage and maintain a schedule of feeding to ensure the health and vitality of ALL calf and young stock nutritional requirements are met
  •  Maintain a high standard of hygiene that facilitates good calf rearing environment and practice
  •  Ensure all routine health and management procedures are undertaken in a timely manner
  •   Deliver calves to young stock facility at an appropriate size and weight to ensure successful rearing
  •   Maintain a register of birth and health events
  •   Manage and maintain Biosecurity of the calf rearing area / initiating and maintaining a register of treatments and supervision of all vaccinations and preventative health initiatives.
  •   Overall responsibility / supervision of the Calf Rearing team
