EXPERIENCED CALVING SPECIALIST

 

Location - Echuca, Northern Victoria

Job Type - Short Term Position ( 8 week Contract )

Start Date – 9th August 2020  / Accommodation on Farm (Cottage)

 

 

THE POSITION

 

An opportunity has become available for an experienced and highly self-motivated Calving Specialist on our client’s large scale dairy enterprise situated at Echuca in Northern Victoria (10km’s to township).

 

The position is a short- term role in which an 8 week Contract is offered.  Consisting of 7 days per week – 12 hours per day (including night shift).  You will be supported by a dedicated and experienced team of 2 staff on a daily basis.

 

 

KEY SPECIFICS (TO BE CONSIDERED)

 

The successful applicant MUST have the following key skills and employment specifics:-

  • Self-starter who is highly motivated with exceptional organisational skills
  • Proven calving experience (pre & post calving monitoring & management)
  • Extensive knowledge of animal health & animal welfare ethics
  • Expertise with management of newborn calves (colostrum feeding / welfare practices)
  • An individual who enjoys working with livestock in a demanding and highly paced role

 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITY (TO INCLUDE, BUT NOT LIMITED TO)

  • Management and Sole Responsibility of calving down 400+ spring calving cows (includes pre-calving management/feeding / point of calving monitoring / post calving monitoring & management)
  • Management of newborn calves – up to 2 weeks of age
  • Administering of colostrum to newborn calves (strict protocols to be adhered to)
