Senior Dairy Farm Operator

The Position

 

An excellent opportunity has become available for an efficient, enthusiastic and self-motivated Senior Dairy Operator on our client’s 260-280 cow dairy farm situated near Kents Lagoon in the scenic Rim Region of Southeast Queensland.

 

This farm site consists of some 200 acres with 160 acres of irrigation (majority under Pivot 150 acres).  Dairy is a 15 swing over herringbone with cup removers.  This site has a year-round calving pattern, and the goal is to operate under a grass and grain system.

 

The successful applicant will be experienced with all facets of farming practices and will also work in conjunction with the owners and co-ordinate the team at this farm site.  You will be pro-active and have the desire and ability to deal with challenges when they arise. 

 

Requirements - Ideally the applicant will have

  • Previous dairy experience
  • A results driven person who is passionate about dairying
  • Excellent knowledge of herd health management skills
  • High standards of work & animal welfare ethics with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to problem solve as well as work with other staff and provide training when required
  • Tractor & machinery competency
  • Experience in pasture management / irrigation
  • Systemise farm operating procedures

Key responsibilities include:

  • Milk harvesting
  • Mastitis control / treatments / record keeping
  • Maintaining milk quality and assurance
  • Herd health / reproduction monitoring and management
  • Pasture rotation / irrigation
  • Plant equipment and infrastructure maintenance
  • Tractor operation and maintenance
